What gets converted
Markdown is plain text with formatting symbols, used for README files, notes, documentation and the answers AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude write. People who receive it usually need a document anyone can open: a PDF to send or print, or a Word file to keep editing. To only read one, use the Markdown viewer.
- Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough and links (live links in the PDF).
- Bullet, numbered and task lists, nested.
- Tables, with the header row repeated when a table runs onto the next page.
- Code blocks in a monospace font on a gray background; quotes; footnotes.
- Math formulas (KaTeX) and Mermaid diagrams, drawn as pictures.
- Pictures stored next to the file, when you drop the folder or a ZIP with them.
The PDF
A4 or US Letter paper, chosen from your browser’s language region, with page numbers. Each heading becomes a bookmark, so the PDF can be navigated from the side panel of any PDF reader, and links to headings inside the document jump to them.
The PDF’s fonts cover Western and Central European languages, Greek, Cyrillic and Vietnamese (in code blocks, Western European letters only). Characters outside them (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, emoji) print as “?”; the page says so, and Print with “Save as PDF” keeps every character, because the browser draws the page itself.
The Word file
The .docx uses Word’s built-in heading styles, so the navigation pane and Word’s own table of contents work, and lists are real Word lists. It opens in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, Pages and Google Docs (upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs).
Copy as rich text
“Copy as rich text” puts the formatted document on the clipboard: paste it into Google Docs, Word, Outlook or Gmail and the headings, lists, tables and code keep their look. Formulas and diagrams are pasted as pictures.
Whole folders, ZIPs and Obsidian vaults (paid)
Drop a folder or a ZIP of Markdown files, several files at once, or an Obsidian vault, and convert every note in one go: a ZIP with one PDF or Word file per note (or both), keeping the folders, or one PDF with every note, a table of contents and bookmarks, in which [[links]] between notes jump to the right page. Files that cannot be read are listed in the ZIP. Reading every note and saving them one at a time stay free.
What can look different
- Layout is the document’s structure, not a copy of any website’s style: fonts are standard, colors of code are not kept in the PDF or Word file.
- Raw HTML in the Markdown is shown in the viewer after cleaning; in the PDF and Word file it becomes its text.
- Pictures from the web are never put into the file (Print keeps them once loaded).
Nothing is uploaded
Most online converters upload the file to a server. Here the PDF and the Word file are made by code running in your browser; no code on the page sends the file, its name or its contents anywhere, not even to our own domain. Pictures from the web load only if you choose “Load pictures”, and never go into the PDF or Word file.
