Open your ChatGPT or Claude data export

Drop the ZIP file from your ChatGPT or Claude data export to search every conversation, read it with its code, formulas and pictures, and save chats as PDF, Word or Markdown. The export is read on your device and never uploaded.

Drop your ChatGPT or Claude export (.zip) here

or

Your file stays on this device: it is read here, in your browser, and never uploaded.

The ZIP file from the export email, or the conversations.json inside it. Up to 8 GB.

How it works

  1. Request your export

In ChatGPT or Claude, ask for a copy of your data in the settings (the steps are below). An email with a download link follows, often within minutes, though OpenAI says a ChatGPT export can take up to 7 days.

  2. Drop the ZIP here

The file is read by code running in this page, even when it is hundreds of megabytes. Every chat is listed with its title and date (and, for ChatGPT, the model).

  3. Search, read and save

Search all chats, read any of them formatted, and save one chat as PDF, Word or Markdown for free. Exporting many chats at once is paid.

ChatGPT and Claude exports, explained

How to export your ChatGPT conversations

ChatGPT can send you a copy of everything in a personal account (Free, Plus or Pro; Business and Enterprise workspaces do not offer this export):

  • Sign in to ChatGPT on the web, click your profile picture and open Settings.
  • Go to Data controls and choose Export data, then Confirm export.
  • You receive an email with a download link to a ZIP file. Download it while signed in to the same account; the link expires after 24 hours.
  • Drop that ZIP file on this page as it is: there is no need to unzip it.

How to export your Claude chats

  • Open Claude in a web browser or the desktop app (the mobile apps cannot export), then Settings → Privacy → Export data.
  • A download link is emailed to your account’s address. You need to be signed in to use it, and it expires after 24 hours.
  • Drop the downloaded ZIP file on this page.

What is in the export

A ChatGPT export holds conversations.json (every conversation, with its whole history; a large export may split it into several numbered files, which this page reads together), a chat.html page of the same, and the pictures and files from your chats. A Claude export holds conversations.json with every conversation and the text extracted from files you attached; the files themselves are not included.

conversations.json is not meant to be read by people: it is one long file of data, and ChatGPT stores each chat as a tree of every edited or regenerated message. This page follows the branch you last saw in each chat, as ChatGPT shows it, and lays the messages out in order.

The export exists because data protection laws such as the EU’s GDPR give you a right to a copy of your personal data in a portable, machine-readable form.

What this page does

  • Recognizes a ChatGPT or a Claude export by its contents, and reads it piece by piece in one pass instead of loading the whole file at once.
  • Lists every chat with its title, date, number of messages and, where the export records it, the model, newest first; searches the titles and the text of every message; filters by date.
  • Shows a chat formatted, as the assistant wrote it: Markdown, code, tables and formulas, the pictures from your chats, and the reasoning or tool output kept apart.
  • Saves one chat as PDF, Word or Markdown, copies it as rich text, and saves the files attached to it. These are free.
  • Paid: all chats, the chats a search or a date filter finds, or the ones you tick, in one go: a ZIP with one PDF, Word and/or Markdown file per chat, its pictures and files beside it and a spreadsheet index, or one PDF with every chat and a table of contents.

What it does not do

  • It does not connect to your ChatGPT or Claude account and needs no password: it only reads the export file you drop.
  • It does not change or re-upload anything. To import chats into another assistant, the Markdown files are the most portable form; the Markdown viewer opens them.
  • Exports change as the services change. If yours does not open, the page says why; the original chat.html in a ChatGPT export opens in a browser too, though a large one is slow.

Your chats stay on your device

Chat histories are about as private as files get. Here the export is read by code running in your browser; no code on the page sends the file, its name or anything in it anywhere, not even to our own domain. The PDF, Word and Markdown files are made in the page too. Pictures from the web in a chat load only if you choose “Load pictures”.

Frequently asked questions

How do I export my ChatGPT chats?

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Data controls → Export data and confirm. An email with a link to a ZIP file arrives; the link expires after 24 hours. Drop that ZIP here to read and save the chats.

How do I export my Claude chats?

In Claude on the web or the desktop app, open Settings → Privacy → Export data. You receive an email with a download link that works for 24 hours while you are signed in. Drop the ZIP here.

How do I open conversations.json?

Drop the whole export ZIP (or conversations.json on its own) on this page. Every conversation is listed and shown formatted, instead of one long file of data.

How do I save a ChatGPT conversation as a PDF?

Open the export here, pick the chat and press PDF; Word and Markdown work the same way. Saving one chat at a time is free; exporting many chats at once is paid. Without an export, for the one chat open in front of you, the browser’s Print → Save as PDF on the ChatGPT page also works, but long chats and wide code blocks may not print well.

Is my export uploaded?

No. It is read by code running in your browser and never leaves your device. No code on the page sends the file, its name or its contents anywhere, not even to our own domain, and nothing connects to your ChatGPT or Claude account. Pictures from the web in a chat load only if you choose “Load pictures”.

Can I export all my chats at once?

Yes, with the paid export: all chats, or the ones a search, a date filter or your selection picks, as a ZIP of PDF, Word or Markdown files with their pictures and a spreadsheet index, or as one PDF with every chat.

Why is a chat shorter than I remember?

ChatGPT keeps every edited or regenerated reply as a branch. The export marks the branch you last saw, and this page shows that one, as ChatGPT does. If part of a chat’s history is missing from the export, the page says so.
